The Wild Wisdom of Winter

As part of the Spiritual Rewilding journey, we focus on our reconnection with nature and the natural world. One significant aspect of this journey involves reattuning ourselves to the rhythms and cycles of nature. By doing so, we can better understand and honour the shifts and changes happening both within and around us. This process is a crucial step towards deepening our connection with the natural world and accessing a greater sense of peace, purpose, and fulfillment in our lives.

At this time of year, it's easy to get caught up in the busyness and festivities that come with Christmas. However, amidst the chaos and excitement, it's important to remember the stillness and quiet that this season represents. The land has gone into dormancy, inviting us to go within and connect with the seeds of hope and vision that will grow in the coming year.

Festivities, celebration, and feasting have been a part of this season for thousands of years, going all the way back to the mass feasts at Durrington Walls over Winter Solstice. Our ancestors knew the importance of coming together and celebrating life in the midst of the dark months of the year. However, amidst the celebrations, it's important to also honour the call for space and solitude. We must create time for reflection and perspective, allowing ourselves to tune into the stillness and space that this season offers.

After spending time indoors, sharing a beautiful Christmas with loved ones, and indulging in incredible food and Christmas movies, it can be refreshing to get out into nature and reconnect with the Wild Wisdom of the season. For me, this meant going out onto the mountain, feeling a sense of space, and looking out over the wide landscape of hills, lakes, and mountains. Looking back across thousands of years to the ancient tomb of Queen Meadhbh on Knocknarae, I was reminded of the importance of gaining a wider perspective and connecting with the wisdom of our ancestors.

So, as we move forward into the new year, I encourage you to create space to connect with the stillness in the land and within yourself. Take time for reflection and gaining perspective, allowing yourself to connect with the Wild Wisdom of the winter season. And, as always, thank you for your support throughout the year. I look forward to sharing and connecting with you more in 2023. Wishing you a very Happy New Year!
