Honouring the Local Landscape: A Path to Belonging

When we think about connecting spiritually with nature, it’s easy to picture ourselves traveling to far-off, wondrous landscapes. Maybe we imagine ourselves on a retreat, surrounded by mountains or old growth forests, feeling deeply immersed in the beauty of the land, far away from our every days stresses and worries. But the challenge often comes when we return home.

What happens to that connection when we’re back in our everyday environments—the same streets, fields, or parks we see every day? Too often, it feels like that deep sense of connection gets left behind, as though it belongs only to that one special place. We return to our daily routines, and the magic we felt starts to fade, leaving us feeling split—spiritually fulfilled in one place but disconnected in our own lives.

This split is something so many of us experience. We feel deeply connected during those moments when we escape, but find it difficult to bring that sense of connection into our everyday landscapes and environment. And yet, the truth is, if we want to truly belong, if we want to bring the sacred into our daily lives, we need to find a way to connect with the land that is right here—the land we walk on every day.

With the Spiritual Rewilding course, I have taken a different approach. Instead of focusing on far-off places, the journey we work through invites us to root ourselves deeply right where we are. Belonging isn’t about escaping to find magic somewhere else—it’s about discovering the beauty, connection and sacredness of the land beneath our feet. It’s about coming into sacred relationship with the places we pass by every day, learning to see them with new eyes, and nurturing a connection that grows over time.

One of the key parts of the process is that, throughout the course, you’ll work with one particular place in your local environment—a place in nature that you can return to again and again. Week by week, module by module, you’ll explore guided practices that help you deepen your relationship with this place, honouring it, listening to it, and coming to know it in a way that feels both profound and personal. This isn’t about a temporary spiritual high on an exciting weekend away —it’s about weaving a relationship that becomes part of your life, rooted in respect, honour, and a sense of mutual exchange.

When we nurture a relationship with the land around us, we start to transform the way we live. Our sense of belonging deepens, our everyday surroundings become filled with meaning, and we find a groundedness that stays with us. We learn an important lesson that the magic we seek isn’t elsewhere—it’s right here, waiting to be discovered.

If you’re ready to deepen your relationship with the land around you, and to discover the magic of belonging where you are, I invite you to join us on this online course. Make 2025 the year you commit to honouring the local landscape and to finding the sacred right where you live. The Spiritual Rewilding online course is here to guide you, and I’d love for you to be part of this journey.
